New Update
Southern Stars wicketkeeper and aggressive opening batter Alyssa Healy is all set to captain the Lendlease Breakers for the 2018 season. NSW decided to appoint a new captain after an unexpected retirement decision of veteran Alex Blackwell in February 2018 who is now the 1st woman to get elected to the board of New South Wales.

The 28-year-old has an illustrative career spanning 8 years, with 1902 runs in International cricket and 3620 runs in the domestic season. She made her debut in 2007 season as a specialist batsman, later she took up the gloves duty 2 years later.

Her dominance in crucial stages gives her an edge over the rest of the team and a competent forerunner to be selected as a captain. She will now head the ever-dominant, title-defender NSW in the next season.

In an interview as quoted by NSW to the press, the coach of Lendlease expressed her joy as she told,

“The Breakers are blessed with quality leaders and we are delighted that Alyssa will be taking the squad forward into a new era. Two seasons ago an injury to Ellyse Perry gave Alyssa the opportunity to lead the Sydney Sixers into the finals and she took them to the WBBL title in a tense, low-scoring final. She has been a quality cricketer with NSW for over a decade and Australia for more than eight years. Alyssa’s aggressive approach to the game is highlighted by spirited batting and energetic wicket-keeping which has been central to the success of her state and country. Importantly she is a big game player as highlighted by her century in the WNCL final against Western Australia at the end of last season."

NSW now needs to be restructured as to fill the void left by Alex, but the champion team is already experienced to such crucial situations and have just won 19 titles and 10 of the WNCL titles in a row till date in 22 years.
