Australia’s Grace Harris and Laura Harris have re-signed with defending champions Brisbane Heat ahead of the sixth season of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), it was announced on Tuesday (August 18).

The Harris siblings have been integral part of Heat side that won two back-to-back titles in WBBL04 and WBBL05. Laura scored 179 runs from 16 matches at a strike rate of 157.02, while Grace played an important role in Heat’s title defence scoring 213 runs during the fifth season. Grace holds the record for the fastest ever century in the history of WBBL.

Earlier, Australian allrounder Jess Jonassen was announced as the captain of the side for the 2020-21 season. Heat also re-signed allrounder Delissa Kimmince and New Zealand duo of Maddy Green and Amelia Kerr ahead of the season.

“It goes without saying that everyone is very pleased for Laura and Delissa and as a group, we all wish them the very best for the future,’’ said coach Ashley Noffke, about the duo, who got married on Saturday (August 15).

“All of the players have been working very hard during the off-season, and I know neither DK, ‘Larris’ or Grace wanted to slacken off, even though it was a bit challenging with final arrangements due to the various travel restrictions and social distancing conditions for the event.”

Noffke feels the Harris sisters will be key members for the Heat with their batting during the coming season.

“We have all seen that Grace can be devastating on her day with her batting, and of course she is a very handy bowler for us. Laura continues to get better and better. She has been great in the later overs as a finisher or as a pinch hitter and we are keen to keep challenging her,” he added.

WBBL season 6 will start on October 17 and the final is scheduled to be played on November 29.
