The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s T20I and ODI squads for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka starting from June 23, both teams will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The squads have been picked for a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series on Wednesday (June 8).

Smriti Mandhana has been named as the vice-captain of the team and will be seen assisting Kaur on the field. Kandy and Dambulla will be the two venues for the series. Kaur has been named as the skipper in the absence of Mithali Raj, who announced her retirement from international cricket on Wednesday.

This will be India’s first assignment after their forgettable 50-over World Cup campaign in New Zealand recently. The team led by Raj had failed to qualify for the semi-finals and were only able to defeat Bangladesh, arch-rivals Pakistan and first-time participants Bangladesh.

The trio of Simran Dil Bahadur, Sabbineni Megahana and Harleen Deol have been added to the ODI squad. Both Dil Bahadur and Meghana were traveling reserves during India’s World Cup campaign and are part of the T20I contingent as well. Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav will return to the T20I side after missing out during the one-off T20I against New Zealand, but they are not part of the ODI team.

Veteran pacer Goswami, who didn’t feature in either the Senior T20 Trophy and Women’s T20 Challenge has not been included in any of the teams. Sneh Rana, who was part of India in the World Cup didn’t find a place in the squad. Shikha Pandey continues to remain on the sidelines after being dropped from the New Zealand tour and subsequent World Cup squad.

After the World Cup, the Indian players have only competed in two domestic t20 tournaments. They first featured in the Senior T20 Trophy and then played in the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 that was organised in Pune between May 23-28.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka look more battle-hardened than the tourists as they recently toured Pakistan for a three-match T20I and a three-match ODI series. They faced a whitewash at the hands of the green brigade in the T20 series and were beaten 2-1 in the ODI series.
