After successfully recovering from injuries she sustained in a road accident late last year, former India batter Shyama Dey, is eager to continue her cricket connection after the lockdown ends.

A member of the Bengal women's senior team selection committee, Dey and her colleagues, Chandana Mukherjee and Purnima Mukherjee, were severely injured when their vehicle met with an accident on the way to Dubrajpur. The incident occurred on November 3 when the trio were travelling to an Under-23 training camp in Birbham district.

All three were immediately admitted to Chittaranjan Advanced Medical Referral Institute before the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) stepped in to shift them to Apollo Hospital.

Dey, who played three Test and five ODIs for India between 1995 and 1997, suffered multiple facial injuries and several fractures. She had to undergo a number of surgeries for the same.

Having now fully recovered, the left-hander is eager to begin her 'new life'.

“I have missed the ground so much and can't wait to rejoin. This is a new life for me and I want to tell everybody to stay positive and stay safe in the difficult times we are going through. We will get through this,” she said.

Additionally, the 48-year-old thanked the CAB for their continued support and singled out President Avishek Dalmiya as a huge supporter of women's cricket.

“I don't know how to thank the CAB and everyone who was there with us during that period. CAB took care of every possible thing, starting from bearing all the hospital expenses to the aftercare costs."

“Avishek Dalmiya (the CAB president) is working hard for women's cricket. I have seen few who supported women cricketers like this,” she concluded.
