Sophie Devine has been adjudged the Adelaide Strikers’ ‘Most Valuable Player’ for the third consecutive time following her record-breaking 2018 Women’s Big Bash League season. The New Zealander, who led her side for the first time in a T20 World Cup last month, smashed tournament and club record of 769 runs from 16 games at an average of 76.90 – the highest by any player.

The powerful opener maintained her authority at the top of six-hitting charts with another 29 in the 2019 season, also becoming the first Striker – male or female – to cross 2000 BBL runs. The allrounder also had a nice outing with the ball scalping 19 wickets with the best of 3 for 13 which came against Melbourne Stars. She also took six Player of the Match awards.

“I just want to say a massive thank you for the award and it’s obviously a huge honour to win the MVP,” said Devine in a pre-recorded message. “I know that it’s about a lot more than me, not only my teammates out on the field but the coaching and support staff that do everything behind the scenes and even bigger than that, it’s everyone at the Adelaide Strikers and SACA that make being a part of this team so special.” She capped off her stunning season by claiming the equal-most outfield catches (10) by any player, sharing the record with teammate Bridget Patterson.

Before Devine, Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt (WBBL|02) and former England international Sarah Taylor (WBBL|01) were the winners of Strikers WBBL MVP titles.
