Devika Vaidya replaces Pooja Vastrakar in India's squad

The event technical committee of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2018 has approved Devika Vaidya as a replacement for the injured Pooja Vastrakar.



Vastrakar suffered a knee injury during a warm-up match against the Windies ahead of the 9-24 November tournament and has now been withdrawn from the squad after continuous assessment.



The ICC event technical committee comprising Geoff Allardice, Chris Tetley, Mel Jones, Ebony Rainford-Brent, Jennifer Nero and Roland Holder permitted a replacement for her.



Vaidya has played 9 ODIs and a lone T20I till date with her T20 appearance taking place nearly 4 years ago. She made her return to the ODI squad early this year against after battling a shoulder injury only for her to remain out of the squad against Sri Lanka owing to dengue.



Vaidya is expected to join the squad in time for the semi-finals, to be played in Antigua on 22 November. In the interim, India play Australia in their last Group B league match in Guyana on Saturday to decide the group toppers with both sides having already qualified.
