Skipper Devika Vaidya's 43 off 40 and Nisha Maji's 2/11 powered India Blue to a convincing win over India Red team and grab 4 points in the first match of BCCI U-23 T20 Challenger Trophy at Mysore on October 4.

India Blue won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Devika Vaidya, along with Priya Punia put on a 75 runs stand for the first wicket before the latter got dismissed by a direct throw from Harleen Deol. Punia scored 30 off 40 with 4 fours. Soon Vaidya followed her, after scoring 43 off 40 with 6 fours.

Middle order batters fell in a quick succession. Some brilliant fielding helped India Red to restrict their opponent within 114/5 at the end of the 20 overs. Anjali Sarvani took 1 wicket for India Red; while the rest of the batters were dismissed by run outs.

Chasing 115, India Red lost both their openers, captain Tanusree Sarkar and N. Anusha very cheaply. Middle order batters Harleen Deol and Nuzhat Parween started to resurrect the innings and both added 46 runs before Parween got dismissed by Kalpana Reddy's quick glovework from Nisha Maji's delivery in the 16th over. Maji gave her team another breakthrough in the same over by picking up Deol's wicket.

Devika Vaidya and Tanuja Kanwer did the rest of the job and India Red ended up scoring only 95 runs in their allotted overs. Nisha Maji and Tanuja Kanwer bagged two wickets each while Vaidya and Reemalaxmi Ekka picked up one each for India Blue.

India Blue will face India Green tomorrow on the same ground whereas India Red will play against India Green on October 6.
