Deepti Sharma makes it to 2020 Arjuna Award nomination list
India allrounder Deepti Sharma has been nominated for the 2020 Arjuna Award after the selection committee met on Tuesday (August 18). The committee which comprises of Virender Sehwag and former hockey captain Sardar Singh, met at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) headquarters to finalise 29 names on the list.

Deepti was earlier recommended for the award by the BCCI in June. “Now, the responsibility to perform even better has increased. I will try my best to fulfill the expectations. I am thankful to BCCI for nominating me for the prestigious award,” the 24-year-old had earlier said.

She had also tweeted earlier thanking her coaches and teammates for support. Deepti started playing the game at a very young age following her brother to the Ekalavya Sports Stadium. Gradually, she progressed through the domestic ranks and is now one of the vital cogs in India’s limited-overs side. She holds the record for the highest individual women’s ODI score by an Indian player – 188 off 160 balls against Ireland in 2017.

Last year, 28-year-old Poonam Yadav, also from Agra was conferred Arjuna award.
