Cricket West Indies invites applications for the position of head coach

Cricket West Indies (CWI) opened up the application process for the position of head coach for the women's team. Former West Indies men's international Gus Logie currently holds the position of interim head coach, having been appointed last October. During his tenure, West Indies have managed only two wins in 11 matches across formats, also being knocked out in the first round of the T20 World Cup in Australia.



Interested candidates must have at least five years experience in a coaching role or 10 years in Sports Management, working with elite cricketers. Additionally, they must have a 'demonstrated track record as an elite coach' and 'practical experience in developing elite cricketers.'



Only candidate who have a Level 3 coaching accreditation and are of West Indian heritage may apply for the job. Applicants are required to send in their details to recruitment@cricketwestindies.org by May 26.

The candidate's key responsibility will be to get the women's team back to winning ways. Having struggled with injuries and poor form over the last 12 months, the team will need a strong, 'well structured and progressive coaching program' to help improve their results.



Jimmy Adams, CWI director of cricket, suggested the board has been on the lookout for a candidate since the team's disappointing T20 World Cup campaign earlier this year. He also expressed gratitude to Logie for his commitment to the role over the last seven months, adding that the former international will remain in his role until a new candidate is found.

"Following the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup, we have now begun the recruitment process for finding a permanent women’s team head coach," Adams said. "The successful candidate will be expected to drive our women’s program forward and improve our results across both formats. We are grateful for the efforts of interim head coach, Gus Logie, who has led the squad during this transition period and will continue in his interim role until the process has concluded."



After finishing seventh on the ICC Women's ODI Championship table, West Indies were due to play a limited overs series against South Africa in May, before heading off to Sri Lanka for the ODI World Cup qualifiers. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that both tournaments had to be postponed.
