Captain’s knock from Nondumiso Shangase and Taznim Britz led the way as KZN Coastal and Dragons registered wins on day five of the CSA Provincial One-Day tournament on Thursday (October 28). Meanwhile, the Lions beat Western Province by 50 runs to continue their winning run.



Shangase scored an unbeaten 104 off 132 balls and was supported by Chloe Tryon who scored yet another half-century for KZN Coastal. They finished with 287 for four in 50 overs. In reply, only Jenna Searle (59) and Emma Venter (43) were able to score freely against the Coastal bowlers. Jade de Figueiredo took five wickets to end the Easterns’ innings for 173, 114 runs short of the target.

Britz scored an unbeaten century off just 73 balls as Dragons chased down the modest total of 144 set by the Titans in the 31st over. Every other Dragons batter struggled and Ricea Coetzer took four wickets for Titans.



Amogelang Maphangula (42) and Robyn Searle (34) scored crucial runs for Titans as they finished on 143 runs for nine in 50 overs. Nthabiseng Nini and Evodia Yekile took three wickets for Dragons.



In the other match, Lions opener Sharne Mayers missed her half-century by just one run. Ayabonga Khaka was also instrumental in the first innings and scored 34 runs and the Lions scored 206 for 9 in 50 overs.

Western Province captain Alexis le Breton scored 50 off 101 in the chase. Delmari Tucker supported her by scoring 20 runs, but it wasn’t enough as Western Province were bowled out for 156 and lost by 50 runs.

Lions 206/9 in 50 overs (Sharne Mayers 49, Ayabonga Khakha 34; Delmari Tucker 2/21)  beat Western Province 156 all out in 45.1 overs (Alexis le Brenton 50, Delmari Tucker 20; Jameelah Shaikjee 4/21) by 50 runs
