Having won the toss, Heat chose to bat first. Their openers tried to get them off to a flying start as Grace Harris hit Sophie Molineux for the boundary and the over-boundary in the very first over. Unfortunately for them, Harris was dismissed right after that while trying to hit big. A long-on catch by Vlaeminck sent her in the pavilion.
Sammy-Jo Johnson joined Mooney and took the charge where Harris left. Johnson played beautifully through a steady association of 48 with Mooney. Once they both got settled, it became difficult for the bowlers to get past their bat as they started hitting all around the ground. Johnson's lightning fast innings came to an end in the 5th over when she got trapped LBW by Molly Strano.
Things only got worse for the Heat from there as opener Beth Mooney was next to fall for 25. Captain Kirby Short and Jess Jonassen steadied the ship and managed to add 23 runs before Short was dismissed by Strano to a deep mid-wicket catch. Sune Luus was next to join the dugout after getting dismissed for a duck. Jonassen's got dismissed followed by Delissa Kimmince who fell cheaply. They were at 116/6, from where Laura Harris came to her side’s rescue, saved the embarrassment by building a steady partnership with Wolvaardt at first and Jemma Barsby later. They added 58 runs in the last 5 overs and put up a total of 174 on board.
Molly Strano did the major damage to the Heat's batting line-up, claiming four wickets with Molineux bagging two, Tahuhu and Wareham one each.
While chasing, Wyatt and Satterthwaite started off really well. Wyatt played fearless brand of cricket while Satterthwaite played a captain’s knock, mixed caution with aggression. Their fierce innings helped Renegades to put up 75 runs within 10 overs. It was Grace Harris who handed over the first breakthrough to her team by picking up Satterthwaite for 38. Soon Wyatt too got dismissed by Mooney's quick glove work after scoring 32.
After that, wickets started falling at regular intervals. Four wickets fell in a quick succession. Courtney Webb tried to build a partnership but didn't get any support from other batters. Till the 10th over, the match was pretty much in Renegades' court but Heat's bowlers' did a wonderful job and restricted the opponents to 153 after several mis-fields and drop catches.
