Bengal, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Maharashtra start Super League with wins

Bengal had an easy win over Delhi in their opening match of the Super League stage of the inter-state Under-23 Twenty20 competition. Laxmi Yadav’s 60 runs off 62 balls went in vain as Bengal prevailed by eight wickets.

Batting first, Delhi scored 96 in 20 overs which Bengal chased down in 18.3 overs as Kashish Agarwal and Prativa added 58 runs for the second wicket.

In a Group A Super League Mumbai put on a total of 94 for 5. Gujarat, with the help of small yet important partnerships, chased down the total with two balls to spare.

In the same group, Jharkhand beat Baroda by 23 runs. Sonia, Rashmi and Indrani Roy took the team to 123 for 5. Durga Murmu’s three-wicket haul for Baroda was in a losing cause.

In the other fixture of Group B, Maharashtra secured a 50-run win over Punjab. Devika Vaidya, SS Shinde and Tejal Hasabnis helped Maharashtra get to 134. Vaidya also took three wickets, while UA Pawar, Maya Sonawane took one  wicket each as Punjab were restricted to 84.

Delhi and Baroda are without Priya Punia and Radha Yadav respectively for the Super League stage as they left for New Zealand to join the T20I squad.
