The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to recommend the names of Deepti Sharma and Shikha Pandey for the prestigious Arjuna awards this year for their consistency over the past few months, according to reports. It is understood that the names which are shared with the office-bearers are likely to be received by the ministry for the prestigious awards after the approval.

“Yes, the office-bearers were given the names of Shikha and Deepti by the cricket operations team for not just their brilliant show in the World T20 in Australia where we finished as runners-up, but also for their consistent showing in the last season. These two names have been forwarded to the office-bearers and are likely to be forwarded to the ministry for the Arjuna Awards once they approve,” news agency IANS reported.

“India’s emphatic run at the T20 World Cup in Australia in February-March made the entire nation proud when they made it to the finals before losing to hosts at MCG. While India’s promising young talent Shafali Verma was a star turnout with the willow, Shikha was the wrecker in chief with the white-ball as she bagged seven wickets in five appearances with best figures of 3 for 14 for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side.

All-rounder Deepti also continued her stellar run at the World Cup and played an instrumental role in upstaging hosts Australia in the opening game of the tournament. Deepti, who scored an unbeaten 49 against the Aussies in the World Cup opener, finished the tournament with 116 runs with the bat.
