The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a letter to the Indian Premier League (IPL) sponsors to pay extra for the Women’s T20 Challenge which starts in Sharjah from November 4, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror. Dream11 is the title sponsor of the IPL with Paytm, Tata Altroz, Unacademy, Cred and Ceat being the associate sponsors.

In the letter, the BCCI has cited that the women’s event is completely different from the IPL and they have to shell out more money in order to be associated with the three-team competition. According to the report, the sponsors have the option to opt-out of the Women’s T20 Challenge on November 4, 5, 7 and 9.

However, it is still unclear, if the same has been sent to Star and Hotstar – the broadcasters of the tournament. “We have been given to understand that it is different from IPL and any association with the women’s event will cost extra,” said an IPL sponsor to Mumbai Mirror.

Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj will lead Supernovas, Trailblazers and Velocity respectively. The teams play each other once in league stages with the top two teams playing the final.
