Round Five, the final round of the tournament, saw a top-of-the-table clash between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. Both teams came into the match undefeated, promising a close encounter, which it was, as Trinidad and Tobago fell just 28 runs short.
Deandra Dottin led the charge with her side batting first. She scored a 73, and was supported by the Knight sisters, Kycia (77) and Kyshona (56), as Barbados ended their innings on a competitive total of 242-7. What makes the total more impressive is the fact that they had to resurrect the innings as they had lost their first two wickets with the scoreboard still reading zero. Ramharack was particularly destructive with the ball, taking 4-37, while veteran Anisa Mohammed chipped in with two scalps.
In their reply, Trinidad and Tobago could only muster 214, before being bundled out. They fell 28 runs short of their target, as Dottin led the charge again. She claimed remarkable figures of 6-43 to ensure her side was successful in their title defense.
Meanwhile, at the National Stadium, Jamaica registered a crushing victory over Leeward Islands. Batting first, Leeward Islands was bowled out for just 91 runs. Willett top-scored for them with a 23, while all other batters failed to reach double figures. Stafanie Taylor was largely responsible for wreaking havoc, taking four wickets for just nine runs. She then saw the chase home with an unbeaten 24, supporting Chedean Nation who scored 53*.
At the GCC, hosts Guyana also finished their campaign on a high, defeating the Wayward Islands by 57 runs. Although they were chasing only 132, the Wayward Islands faltered.
Batting first, Guyana posted 132 on the board on the back of a 39 from Giddings and 16 from Henry. Afy Fletcher ensured the hosts did not get away from the bowling attack, claiming 3-19. She then top-scored with 26 in the second innings too, but her efforts were in vain as the Wayward Islands were dismissed for 75.
Barbados winning caps of a stunning all-round season for Dottin. The all-rounder sits at the top of the T20 all-rounder rankings, while in ODIs she finds herself at number nine. This season might bring about a change in form for Dottin in the longer format, especially after solid performances during the recently concluded series against Pakistan as well. In the tournament, she amassed 299 runs in five innings, at a strike rate of 172.83. She also claimed seven scalps throughout the duration of the tournament, undoubtedly playing a starring role for her side.
Barbados' skipper Hayley Matthews reflected on her sides victory saying, "It feels really good. We came here with a goal, that was to first of all win the tournament. The girls really showed what we have in our tank. We've been playing our best cricket for the last five games and it definitely showed."
Post-match Dottin commented on her recent form as well, stating, "I've been in form since the time we came off the Pakistan tour so it was just continuing on that and capitalizing on the form that I'm in."
