Annabel Sutherland’s century went in vain as Australia Under 19 lost to New Zealand Development by a two-wickets in Lincoln.

Batting first, Australia put up the score of 248 largely powered by a century from all-rounder Annabel Sutherland (103).

Phoebe Litchfield (31), Josie Dooley (30) and Hannah Darlington (22) also played cameo innings in ensuring Australia posted the strong total.

In the second innings, Australia was set to defend the total, with Stella Campbell picking up the first wicket of the innings Saachi Shahri (14).

Lauren Down yet again played the pivotal knock of 82 including 10 boundaries as New Zealand put up two big partnerships to drift away the match from the visitors. Afterwards, Australia’s bowlers claimed three quick wickets including Down.

With 14 runs required off the last over, Australia pulled the match until the last over. Charlie Knott conceded one run and claimed two wickets off the first three deliveries of the final over, which left New Zealand six runs. Skye Bowden sent the fourth ball over the rope for a maximum to register a two-wicket win with two balls to spare.

Fast-bowler Hayley Silver-Holmes finished with figures of 3-43, while Charli Knott (2-51), Darlington (1-33) and Campbell (1-32) were also among the wickets.

New Zealand Development squad have taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match series against the Australia Under-19. Both the team will play the third One-Day on 16th March which will be the decider whether Australia Under 19 can make a comeback or New Zealand Development will clinch away the series.
