Anna Peterson has been appointed captain of Auckland Hearts for both the one-day and T20 competitions of New Zealand’s 2019-20 domestic season. She takes over from Maddy Green, following her move to Wellington.

“We are excited to announce Anna as our new captain. Anna brings with her an excellent temperament and understanding of the game,” said Nick White, head coach of Auckland. “Anna is an astute tactician. She will relish working with an exciting squad, who continue to enjoy learning abut the game.”

The off-spinner has played a combined total of 82 one-day and 63 T20 matches for Auckland and Northern Districts. To add to that, Peterson has also played 60 internationals for New Zealand.

Peterson will get her first taste of captaincy during Auckland’s trip to Hobart in October where the team will play four T20 matches against Hobart Hurricanes.

“This will be a great opportunity for Anna to express herself and develop her style,” said White.

Despite being a senior member of the squad, this is the first time Peterson will take the reigns of a team full time. She is understandably excited by the opportunity, and keen to create a positive environment that will help the team grow.

“I want to create a safe environment that empowers people to play their best and express themselves,” said the 29-year-old. “We’re a team of fifteen leaders and I think that is going to show how good we are on the field.”

Auckland kick off their season against Wellington at the Basin Reserve on November 16.
