Defending champions Rizvi College claimed their third Red Bull Campus Cricket title as they beat Delhi’s Gargi College by six wickets in the fourth edition of the tournament at the DY Patil University Ground in Navi Mumbai on Saturday (June 1).

Red Bull Campus Cricket is a unique international tournament in the T20 format for college and university students. It has seen the best women’s college teams take on each other from 2021. A total of 16 women’s teams participated in the regional qualifiers of the 2024 edition of the competition.

Gargi College won the toss and elected to bat first. Rizvi College bowlers dominated in the first innings with the Delhi batting unit struggling to put runs on the board. The batting side lost both the openers Deeksha Sharma and Akshita Jain early. Kashish Nirmal was the star bowling performer for Mumbai as the left-arm spinner bagged three wickets while conceding just 11 runs in her four-over spell. Nirmiti Rane also played a key role with two wickets to her name.

Jyoti Yadav made a vital contribution with the bat for Gargi College, scoring 35 runs. However, Delhi batters succumbed to the pressure as they only managed to add 84 runs in 20 overs at the loss of nine wickets.

In reply, Mumbai’s Rizvi College started their innings brightly. Shraddha Shetty and skipper Tushi Shah gave their side a quick start as they scored 31 runs in the first three overs. Gargi College picked up a couple of wickets in quick succession with Aachal Valanju and Saloni Kushte departing early. Sanskriti and Jyoti restricted Rizvi College in the middle overs, taking a wicket apiece.

Despite Gargi College’s best efforts to rattle Rizvi College’s cages, the defending champions managed to comfortably defend the throne as they chased the total in 14.1 overs. This was the second time Rizvi College and Gargi College faced each other in Red Bull Campus Cricket finals and the former emerged victorious on both occasions.
