Amelia Kerr bags four wickets as White Ferns beat Sri Lanka

Amelia Kerr's four-for helps New Zealand restrict the team from the Island nation to 98 which they chased comfortably winning by 6 wickets.

Amy Satterthwaite won the toss and chose to field first taking into account the field conditions with rain already having arrived during India's game against Windies just prior. Sri Lanka didn't get the best of starts as they lost a couple of wickets while only managing to put 23 on the board in the powerplay. Shashikala Siriwardene tried to anchor the innings from one end expecting support from the other but unfortunately didn't get any.

The New Zealand spinners in particular bowled well especially Kerr as they picked up regular wickets not allowing Sri Lankan batters to settle down. Siriwardene, too lost her wicket after scoring 30 to the teenager with the scoreboard reading 81-8. Dilhari and Ranasinghe knocked a boundary each to push the score to 98.

Watkin bagged 2 wickets with Tahuhu, Bates and Satterthwaite picking one each as Amelia Kerr led the bowlers with a four wicket haul.

Chasing, New Zealand promoted Anna Peterson up the order to open alongside veteran Suzie Bates but the move backfired. By the end of the third over, the White Ferns lost 3 wickets putting 11 runs on the board. Maddy Green then joined Bates at the crease as they resurrected the innings with a 42 runs partnership before latter lost her wicket to Siriwardene for 34.

Maddy Green looked all set to take her side home as she smashed 3 boundaries to score 37 before getting retired. Bezuidenhout then joined Jensen and both of them completed the formalities reaching the target winning by 6 wickets with 12 balls to spare.

Both India and New Zealand won their matches today and this should give both teams good confidence before they play each other in the tournament opener on the 9th.
