"200 is just a number for me": Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj became the first woman to play 200 ODIs when she took the field for the 3rd ODI earlier today. She is the highest run-scorer in ODIs with 6622 runs at an average of 51.33, including seven hundreds.



“It feels nice although it's just a number of 200 ODI. Although coming so far seeing different stages of women's cricket around the global as well as in India changing. I made my debut in 1999 under IWC and now coming under ICC could see the difference. I am just happy to represent our country for so long,” said Mithali Raj



Born in Jodhpur on December 3rd 1982, she started to play cricket from a tender age. She is admired for the title of being the only female cricketer who has surpassed the 6,000 runs in ODIs. When asked about her journey Mithali said, “When I started, I didn't think I would make it so far. My aim was to represent the country, wear the Indian colours. Then, be one of the core members of the team but never did I think I would continue to play for so long.”



Mithali is also the first captain to lead India to ICC ODI World Cup final twice - 2005 and 2017.



“When you have a long career you have different elements which come into play. I have tried to constantly thrive and work on my game to suit different conditions and areas of my game. I try to keep up with International Standards it is very important. I have seen joys and highs and lows. I think when you have a long career that part and parcel of it,” she said



She also expressed her gratitude towards everyone involved in her career. “I am grateful to all the coaches who worked for my game, my parents, to my mentors, BCCI and WCI as I have made my debut through them,” said the Indian Skipper.



India have won the ODI series 2-1 to New Zealand at their home.
